To clean your pearls properly, gently wipe with a damp cloth that  is soft and clean. This will remove any perspiration, oil, or other residue that may have come off from the skin or outside elements. If you feel that your pearl needs a deeper cleaning, you can use a mild cleaning agent that is made specifically for pearl products. To dry, use a soft, clean absorbent cloth.

Do not expose pearls to extreme heat. Things like hot water, a steamer, or an ultrasonic cleaner are not advised when caring for your pearls. Do not soak your pearls in water, or expose them to any chemicals, such as hairspray.

Other common products used on the skin you should try to keep away from your pearls are makeup, perfume, and sunblock. These will dull the luster of your pearl. As for natural body oils, these can cause the same sort of damage. To avoid issues, try to put on your pearls about 30 minutes after applying any cosmetics or lotions.
Your pearls should be the last thing you put on, and the first
thing you take off.

When storing your pearls, be sure to separate them from hard jewelry  like rings or bracelets. These items may scratch the surface of your  pearls. They are best kept in a soft cloth pouch or lined jewelry box. They should never be kept in an air-tight container; pearls are organic and contain trace amounts of water which could deteriorate the pearls over time.
